Coral Beattie
I am a recent graduate showcasing a mix of traditional and innovative woven textiles, a real craft I am passionate about. Design, innovation and colour theory are what drives my work, but I also produce strong drawing research at the beginning of any projects, so my design work always comes from a very personal view point. I am using my award of the Spring Fling Young Persons Bursary to carry on with work started in my final year at The Glasgow School of Art, where I created my statement scarf collection for both men and women’s wear. My final year work is inspired by patterns and details found in architecture, with the idea of ‘opposites attract’ always being the basis for my work, and this I hope brings a fresh look to Scottish woven textiles. Visitors to the studio will see original drawings, research sketchbooks and I will have scarves for sale.
