Adam Booth: You can always find another client but you are unique

Based near Castle Douglas, Adam Booth has participated in Spring Fling every year since we started in 2003 and decided to take a year out for Spring Fling 2012. Adam has exhibited and been commissioned throughout the UK and internationally as a professional blacksmith for the past 25 years and his work has gained great recognition. He is now competing in the Craft & Design Selected Award.

SF: What do you make?
High Quality contemporary forged metal work especially gates

SF: Where do you make?
In an old outbuilding at the back of my mother's home 

SF: Why do you make where you do & How long have you worked here?
I was living there when I started the forge in 1987 only a temporary space?

SF: What inspires you?
The plasticity of hot steel and the rigidity of cold steel

SF: What is on the horizon for you locally?
the Sun on the way to work and the Sun on the way home (the A75 runs east west)

SF: What is on the horizon for you nationally / internationally?
I have been invited to become a Freeman of the city of London and was named as one of the world's top ten blacksmiths

SF: What advice would you give to an up-and-coming maker?
Enter every meeting with a client knowing you are there because they want what you can do. you can always find another client but you are unique

SF: What’s currently playing on your studio ipod / cd player / tape deck / record player?
Its Radio all the day, 6 Music or radio 2 I work in a noisy environment it s easy to miss something if there is thread to follow

SF: Tell us something not many people know about you
"apparently I'm going bald, but I can't see it myself"
