SF: What do you make?  (c) Alison MacLeod
I make jewellery

SF: Where do you make?
I have a studio at the Briggait in the Merchant City of Glasgow. It’s a beautiful Victorian fish market which has been converted into studios for artists and crafts people.

SF: Why do you make where you do & How long have you worked here?
I have been here for 2 years. Its close to where I live which is convenient and being around other artists and crafts people makes it a very inspiring place to create.

SF: What inspires you?
My favourite day would consist of a visit to the car boot sale in the morning followed by a nice lunch (obviously) then the architectural salvage yard in the afternoon and if I’m lucky I will be able to take some treasures home. (Note to self: this day doesn’t happen often enough!)

SF: What is on the horizon for you locally?
I am spending the start of the year spring cleaning the studio and my head: updating my filing cabinet, getting my accounts up to date and having a good clear out.

SF: What is on the horizon for you nationally / internationally?
My plans for the year are to continue promoting my new online shop www.alisonmacleod.com and flooding it with more new work.

Alison's Studio SF: What advice would you give to an up-and-coming maker?
I think its hard coming out of Art College wanting to set up on your own and having no business experience at all, you have to learn SO MUCH on the job. I think my main piece of advice would be to work hard. This isn’t an easy path to take and a positive and diligent attitude will set you apart.

SF: What’s currently playing on your studio ipod / cd player / tape deck / record player?
Right at this minute I am chortling along to Radcliffe and Maconie on BBC 6 Music

SF: Tell us something not many people know about you
A relative has just done a family tree revealing that we are descended from a line of Vikings, one of which is called ‘Herald the Black of Iceland’!

Aw, this was a really nice post. In idea I would like to put in writing like this additionally – taking time and actual effort to make a very good article… but what can I say… I procrastinate alot and by no means seem to get something done.
