Leeming + Paterson: We make wherever the urge takes us

Leeming + Paterson are Ted Leeming and Morag Paterson who work together as landscape photographers based in Galloway. Originally from Southampton and Aberdeen respectively, the couple have been working together for over 6 years and have participated in Spring Fling since 2007. Their collaborative work has been exhibited widely in the UK and beyond.

SF: Where do you make?
We are based at our studio in Galloway, but make wherever the urge takes us.
SF: Why do you make where you do & How long have you worked here?
We’ve been taking photographs collaboratively for 6 years now with a strong outdoor/nature theme. Our latest portfolio has all been taken from directly outside our studio from a fixed point over a period of approximately two years.
SF: What inspires you?
When in the great outdoors there is inspiration everywhere we look (if we are receptive to it). It can come from anything ; an interestingly shaped tree, a flash of light on a mountain burn, an interesting rock formation etc. Colour, texture and light are the building blocks of our images.
SF: What is on the horizon for you locally?
We are part of a newly formed photography collective that will be launched with a joint exhibition at the Catstrand in March and are looking forward to Spring Fling a few months later.
SF: What is on the horizon for you nationally / internationally?
We are showing our Zero Footprint exhibition for MSPs at Holyrood from the 22nd-24th May (restricted access). Also looking forward to some collaborative workshops - watch this space!
SF: What advice would you give to an up-and-coming maker?
Learn some business and marketing skills and don’t forget to network. Use your local exhibition facilities to build up a CV showing your commitment to your practise.

SF: Tell us something not many people know about you
Ted nearly became an accountant and I used to be an axe-thrower(!)
