Spring Fling 2017
27 - 29 May
Our 15th Anniversary Year
Spring Fling is a vibrant visual art and craft open studioes event covering the length and breadth of Dumfries and Galloway in South West Scotland; it is highly regarded as one of the UK's most successful visual art and craft events. The 2016 event took place from the 27 - 29 May when carefully selected Artists & Makers opened their doors to visitors showcasing their work throughout the Dumfries and Galloway area.
The open studios event is produced by Upland CIC as its annual flagship event, bringing around 30,000 unique visitors to D&G across its's three days and more than £1.5 million to the region economy.
This year, 93 artists and makers will open their studios to the public, offering insights, exclusives, demonstrations and the opportunity to buy directly from the studio. The open studio weekend celebrates arts and crafts in Dumfries and Galloway, a region with a recognised high number of high quality artists and makers. Joining these local artists were a handful of artists and makers from neighbouring regions (through our Neighbour Scheme) and those with links to Spring Fling and/or the region (through the Springback Scheme).

Accompanying the open studios as always is an array of arts programming designed to promote and enhance both the visitors and the participating artists experience of the event. This year we are pleased to present our Flagship exhibition which will be at New Brewery Arts in Cirencester. This exhibition focuses on the Applied Arts and has been curated by representatives from New Brewery Arts and the Craft Council England. The exhibition runs from 25th March - 14th May 2017. For information on New Brewery Arts you can visit their website www.newbreweryarts.org.uk Find out more about the exhibition here.
To celebrate 15 years of Spring Fling, we are partnering with Gracefield Arts Centre to host an exhibition from private and public collections by artists and makers who have taken part in Spring Fling over the last 15 years. This Collectors exhibition celebrates the open studio event from a visitors perspective, looks at where works are now, how they have shaped people's lives and homes and highlights the special relationships built between artist and collector. This anniversary exhibition runs from the 22nd April - 12th May 2017. Find our more about the exhibition here.
We are also delighted to present a public art commission for this year's event. We will release more information soon, so in the meantime visit the EDGE page here.
