This year we are presenting a handful of workshops with some of this year's Spring Fling participants. Workshops range from textiles, pastels and oils to ring making and photography, and will take place the week of, and after Spring Fling.
Tuesday 22nd May
Phil McMenemy (Studio 34, p35)
Composition in Springtime

Come spend the day with long-time Spring Fling participant artist-photographer Phil McMenemy where he will introduce you to his rather different take on photography. Consideration will be given to composition, planning, texture and seeing in the landscape. Some of the day will be spent in the Gallery at Laurieston and some out in the Galloway landscape. Bring wellies & a mac, your camera, lunch and an open mind. Transport will be needed to outdoor location and car sharing with other attendees suggested (will arrange on day).

Fabric Bonding & Stencilling Workshop

Jo Gallant is a regular participant of Spring Fling. In this workshop, you will experiment with simple shapes to build a design based on a bird then use collage and stencilling to create it in fabric. No experience necessary. Materials provided. Lunch is available at the Catstrand cafe.

Join John for a day of pastels: The combination of vibrant colours and expressive mark making that pastels can produce encourages a lively immediacy and spontaneity that may generate fresh artistic insight. Through a series of guided exercises and demonstrations we will explore this responsive and exciting medium. Materials provided. Lunch will be provided at £10pp at the Barons Craig Hotel. Attendees are welcome to bring their own pastels and paper. Please confirm whether you need materials when booking.

Wednesday 30th May
Oil Painting Workshop

Come and learn how to make that all-important start to an oil painting from life. Artist, Elizabeth Gilbey, will guide participants through the first stages of a work, including drawing and composition, seeing the values of light and shade and introducing naturalistic colour. We will landscape paint if the weather is dry or work on still life in the studio if wet. Bring your own kit or use the studio's. Bring lunch and suitable clothing for painting outdoors.

Ring Making Workshop

Join jeweller Lisa Rothwell- Young in her studio where you and a friend partner can design and make your own silver rings. Lisa will show you how to cut and form metal, you'll have the opportunity to do some soldering etching or apply texture in a variety of different ways such as with hammers and punches. Bring lunch.
