Kate Anderson: ‘Transition Mosaic’ for Kirkcowan Primary School
21st May 2012This Spring Kirkcowan School is celebrating its 150th year!
As well as several special events and activities the ‘Transition Mosaic’ was commissioned to be made by Kate Anderson to represent the constant as well as changing role the school is playing in the community. Kate spent a day at the school in March talking to seven to nine year olds about how she works, and getting them to experiment with a design exercise. She also gave a ‘taster’ session to a group of parents in the afternoon. Pupils decorated clay medallions to be incorporated with the mosaic and four parent volunteers also visited the Smithy Studio on one to three days during the period it was made to help. The mosaic will be on show at Tongland during Spring Fling.
