Spring Fling is marketed as a unique opportunity for the public to visit artists and makers in their studios, see how they work and buy or commission artwork. In 2015 there were 39,618 studio visits equating to 13,446 unique visitors with sales across all studios over the weekend totalling £262,940­­. The event contributed over £1.4million to the local economy in 2015, making it the most successful year to date. Spring Fling team is committed to operating an effective press and marketing campaign to attract visitors to the region for the Spring Fling weekend and to raise awareness of the event amongst local residents – 55% of our visitors come from the rest of the UK and beyond.

With national exhibitions in Edinburgh, Newcastle and Berlin and Spring Fling Rural Mural gaining national press profile, in 2015 we achieved national and local coverage valued at £160,672, reaching over 6 million audience. It is anticipated that the Spring Fling 2016 press strategy will include a regional press and media campaign, advertising in specialist arts press and coverage in national newspapers and magazines.

2016 Marketing Campaign

20,000 Brochures

Printed in February 2016 and distributed to ‘Friends of Spring Fling’, to postage paid requests through the website and through tourist information centres, libraries, museums, galleries, recommended venues and accommodation providers.

30,000 Fold Out Maps

Distributed to our over 6500 strong UK mailing list along similar lines, as well as among relevant outlets across Scotland, the North of England and further afield in the UK and appropriate arts mailings outside the region

Locally and nationally – in 2015 we had press coverage in places such as The Times, Reporting Scotland, BBC Good Morning Scotland, The Scotsman, The Herald, ITV News, and The Scotland on Sunday and Dumfries and Galloway Life magazine.

Social Media

Marketing campaign using primarily Facebook, Instagram & Twitter (@spring_fling) This is regularly linked up with the Spring Fling website and individual artists websites, artist social network profiles. At 22/09 we have 2700 Twitter followers, 1590 Facebook fans and 400 followers on Instagram (this account was set up for the 2015 event).

 

Sponsorship Opportunities

Prize Draw

Cash prizes for the visitors prize draw where they can win a voucher to spend in studios and in-kind offers of dining/sleeping experiences – 700 visitors enter each year

Public Art

Spring Fling Rural Mural – a large scale project that saw 5 murals painted across the region along with numerous ‘unexpected things’ – we are looking for mural and whole project sponsors

Bus Tours

We run a number of local bus tours taking visitors around the various studio routes and the Rural Murals - we are looking for local route sponsors, or for a regional sponsor.

National / International

Spring Fling is taking Rural Mural to national and international audiences in 2016. Murals will feature not only regionally also in England and Berlin.

Youth Development

We run a number of youth projects, mentoring, heritage craft training, school design competitions, work in schools and are looking for a youth sponsor

Print/Brochure/Map

Our brochure and map and collectable and are our most powerful marketing tool -  we are now looking for a print sponsor

Local Events & Exhibitions

For 2016 we will run a flagship exhibition with our local gallery partner at Gracefield Arts Centre, Dumfries– we are interested in speaking to local sponsors
