The region’s premier art and crafts festival will be back in May bigger than ever.

Brimming with new ideas for its 11th year and featuring a jam-packed line-up of more than 90 specially selected artists, Spring Fling 2013 is on course to retain its reputation as one of the best contemporary open studio events in the UK.

For three days in May, the annual event – which boosted the region’s economy by an estimated £1million in 2012 – will see professional artists, designers and makers open their studio doors to welcome the public to purchase their work, commission artworks and watch demonstrations. And with taster exhibitions taking place throughout the region from March, art lovers in Dumfries and Galloway will be able to check out the work of the artists involved before the festival kicks off.

Leah Black, Spring Fling manager, said: “This year will be the 11th annual Spring Fling and it’s going to be the biggest ever, with a huge amount to see and do.

“The range of art, craft and design is enormous – from landscape and wildlife painting and photography to ceramics, textiles, jewellery, furniture, sculpture willow work, video and installation.

“The size of the event and the quality of the work on show marks Spring Fling out as being the very best of its kind in the UK. “

She added: “As ever, it’s also a great chance to spend some time looking around Dumfries and Galloway, which is one of the most relaxed and beautiful areas of Scotland.” More than 30,000 studio visits took place last year, by people from more than 19 different countries including Australia, Canada and Hong Kong.

This year guests will be able to enjoy a variety of new features including the Spring Fling Fringe – 21 extra events and activities which will take place to coincide with the main Spring Fling programme.

The first Spring Fling taster exhibition takes place at Gracefield Arts Centre on Friday, March 29 – Sunday, March 31.

Doors will be thrown open for the main event on Saturday, May 25.
