Spring Fling is Here – Don’t Miss Out on Scotland’s Premier Arts and Crafts Open Studios Event

Dumfries and Galloway festival is the perfect way to enjoy the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Holiday

There’s a huge amount going on at this year’s Spring Fling open studios arts and crafts event - involving lots of remarkable people and making a great way to spend the Diamond Jubilee holiday from 2-5 June.

This year’s Spring Fling features some superb photographers specialising in everything from wildlife and rural landscapes to portraiture and urban street scenes. Among them are the award-winning Phil McMenemy and Kim Ayres, Roger Lever, Leeming and Paterson, and Simon Robinson.

Amazing Talent

Some of Scotland’s finest artists and crafts makers are throwing open their studios to the public for Spring Fling. They range from painters and potters to photographers and jewellers. All 76 had to pass a rigorous selection process to take part. That means that visitors to this year’s event can be assured of a top-quality experience

Congratulations from Leading Politicians

MSPs from across the political spectrum have congratulated Spring Fling on a decade of superb achievements. A motion put before the Scottish Parliament by SNP South of Scotland MSP Joan McAlpine congratulating Spring Fling on its 10th birthday celebrations has already won the backing of 17 other parliamentarians from her own party, Labour, The Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives. Supporting Young Artists

A special 10th anniversary initiative is providing guidance to young artists and an opportunity to participate in Scotland’s leading open studios event. A mentoring programme allows established artists to help emerging creative talent.

Future Star Zoe Composes Mini-Movie Theme Tune

Schoolgirl singer-songwriter Zoë Bestel, whose first single has just been released, provides the musical accompaniment to a special promotional film commissioned by Spring Fling. Zoë, a third-year pupil at Douglas Ewart High School in Newton Stewart, sings and plays her ukulele in her own upbeat composition, ‘Spring Fling’, to provide the perfect complement to the film which appears on the event’s website She will also be playing at the Spring Fling ceilidh on 2nd June and will appear at high-profile gigs such as the internationally-acclaimed Wickerman Festival.


A Pint with Unconventional Artists

Join unconventional artists Alice Francis, Matt Baker and Tim Taylor for the Spring Fling Beer + Blethers. Londoners Live the Arts Dream in Scotland

London artists are among the select group to have been chosen to take part in Spring Fling – Scotland’s premier arts and craft open studios event. Northern Ireland and Spring Fling

Belfast man Mike Gray and County Antrim-born artist Hilary McElderry are playing key roles in Spring Fling. Mike, a passionate cyclist who is now retired and lives in the rural town of Dumfries, will be leading the bike tours which are a popular way for visitors to the annual event. Hilary, who specialises in colourful drawings of fabrics, is among the artists selected to take part in Spring Fling.

• Spring Fling – which has been shortlisted for Best Cultural Event in the prestigious Scottish Thistle Awards 2012 - runs from Saturday 2nd June to Tuesday 5th June.

• Some 76 artists and craft makers are taking part and visitors will be able to see, and buy, a diverse range of outstanding items spanning painting and photography, jewellery and textiles, glass, ceramics and furniture
