Spring Fling Schools Poster Competition 2015
Spring Fling School Poster Competition
In 2014, Spring Fling ran its first School Posters Competition. We had over 200 entries from children aged 3-12 and the judging panel chose 19 school winners, two runners up and one overall winner. They were all exhibited at Gracefield Arts Centre in Dumfries as part of our main Spring Fling exhibition in the region and each school was invited to a prize giving and certificate presentation.
We are running the competition again for Spring Fling 2015 with the winning poster being used in Dumfries & Galloway, the rest of the UK and at our first international exhibition in Berlin.
We put together a film along with one of Spring Fling’s regular participants, Ailsa Black. She takes viewers through the process of responding to a brief and explains the skills and techniques she uses in producing her final poster.

Who can enter?
The competition is open to young people aged between 3-12 years of age, including young people in partnership early years environments.
Entrants are invited to design and create a poster for Spring Fling that will support the advertisement of the Spring Fling at local, national and international events in 2015. The poster can be created using any techniques and materials, including paints, pens, photography, collage, textiles and ICT but final version must be two-dimensional representations of these designs.
The theme is ‘What Dumfries and Galloway means to me’ with particular emphasis on Food & Drink in line with EventScotland’s theme for 2015. Pupils should also think about travelling around the region, meeting artists in their studios, finding out about what they make, the landscape and environment, and some of the iconic features of the region that contribute to its identity and how they make Dumfries and Galloway the region that it is today.
The winning poster will become the official poster for Spring Fling 2015. 300 A3 posters of the winning design will be printed and will be distributed around the UK, displayed at our international exhibition and will appear on the Spring Fling website and social media. The winning poster and those of the two runners-up will be framed and showcased at Gracefield Arts Centre at the Young Bursary Awards Winners Past & Present Exhibition 28 February-4 April. Winners and teachers will be also invited to an exhibition opening and press call.
There are also cash prizes:
1st Prize: Pupil £100 | School £200
Runners Up (x2): Pupil £50 | £100
Each pupil’s finished poster should be submitted using the template provided (A3 with a 7cm band along the bottom for logo and text). The final work can be drawn directly on the template, glued down if working in collage.
