Alexander Robb
I am a painter based for the last 40 years in Auldgirth. My subjects include still life, landscape and portraits. Portraits are usually of local people who are prepared to model. Landscapes are also local, either around Auldgirth or the Solway Shore. In still life I use objects which I have collected over many years and which have a special appeal.

About My Practice
I paint in oils. I use pastel, pencil or gouache for outdoor studies which I then work up into finished paintings in the studio. I am a late career artist having studied at Glasgow School of Art 1968-1972. This year I have had a large retrospective exhibition in Gracefield Arts Centre. My main influences are The Glasgow Boys and the Scottish Colourists. I am a figurative artist painting in a realist style.
Tools & Materials
I paint in oils on canvas which I stretch and prime myself. I sketch a great deal out of doors with coloured pencil which I find to be portable and convenient.
