Mixed Media / Textiles • Purple Route

I create textile art using mixed media collages of papers and fabrics with added free machine stitch. This year I have been using old garments, de-constructing, colouring and then arranging to make abstract artworks, which are inspired by worn and weathered details of the landscape.

My Practice

I am inspired by weathered rocky shores and tidal edges, exploring forgotten and difficult to access places at the coast. I am fascinated by these worn surfaces and through closely observing the smaller details these become abstract shapes and marks.

Tools & Materials

This year I have been working with old garments, de-constructing, colouring and collaging them to make stitched abstract artworks. An awareness of the global textile waste problem, and the impact of producing new fabrics, makes me want to recycle the fabrics I already have. I keep and use every tiny scrap, aiming for zero waste. I use fabric and paper in my pieces, with paint and dye and free machine stitching.
