Frances Ross

I make ceramic sculpture, tiles and architectural ceramics. My recent work explores light and wave patterns, and connection with the more than human world. I create my work by handbuilding with slabs, press moulding and slip casting.

About My Practice

My work evolves through hands-on experimentation with ceramic materials and processes. Slab rolling and handbuilding with different clays, constructing moulds for slip casting, and developing glazes that foam, flow and crackle in the kiln.

Tools & Materials

My light, spacious workshop houses everything I use day-to-day: workbenches with cutting and modelling tools, slab roller, kilns, mould-making and casting equipment, materials and apparatus for making glazes, as well as my test glaze collection and research library.
