Frances Ross
I am a ceramic artist working with porcelain clay to create sculpture and works at the intersection of art and function. My work combines experiments with materials and processes with my interest in the elemental forces of nature, from the cosmic to the microscopic.

About My Practice
From gravity, fluid dynamics and electromagnetic forces to the intellect of birds and the molecular cooperation between trees and fungi, the laws of the universe inform my practice. My primary making methods are slip casting and hand building, and I frequently experiment with other fireable materials and techniques.
Tools & Materials
In my studio in the heart of the Machars, I work with a making process of flowing porcelain slip over open moulds and allowing the liquid to find its own unique path, slowly locking into ‘captured’ movements, a ceramic motion-capture.
