Glenda Waterworth
I am a mixed-media artist based in Drummore, Scotland's most southerly village. I am captivated by the natural world, and living close to the sea has had a profound impact on my work. I am inspired by the endless interplay of light and water, the ever-changing colours of the sky, and the texture of the land and sea.

About My Practice
My paintings often take the form of abstract landscapes, using shape and colour to evoke the feeling of a particular place or moment in time. I am fascinated by the endless possibilities of abstraction, and the freedom it provides to process emotions and experiences that are often difficult to express through words alone.
My palette is often bright and vibrant, yet I am equally drawn to more muted tones that evoke a sense of nostalgia and introspection.
Through my art, I hope to convey some aspect of the beauty and complexity of the world around us, and to create a sense of connection and understanding.
Tools & Materials
I mainly work in acrylics and water-mixable oils and make use of different media to add texture and change the absorbency of the painting surface. As well as traditional brushes, I use palette knives, silicone spatulas and non-traditional tools to create texture and marks. I also enjoy experimenting with textile elements such as fused silk paper and will collage these onto my paintings along with monoprinted tissue paper to create a richly layered and textured surface.
Alongside painting, I also dye fabric, yarn and wool fibre and in 2024, I will be working from a new, purpose built studio where I have both a dyeing station and a painting area with views looking over Luce Bay. I have also studied traditional bookbinding and still enjoy making unique and original books, often with hand painted covers.
