I work in clay, mainly making hand built forms inspired by prehistoric art and its connections with our fragile natural environment. As well as decorating my work with earthenware slips using brushwork and sgraffito techniques, I use raku firing processes.

My Practice
I primarily create hand built ceramics (slab work, coiling, sculpting) to achieve natural, organic shapes. My work is inspired by our fragile environment and influenced by the content and colour pallette of prehistoric cave painting.
Tools & Materials
Having moved back to my hometown Kirkcudbright last year, my studio is presently a work in progress! I previously worked from the Glasgow Ceramics Studio (WASPS). As well as decorating my work with earthenware slips using brushwork and sgraffito techniques, I use raku firing processes. I have developed my mould making skills to allow sculptural pieces withstand the trauma of raku firing.

Spring Fling Activity
At my studio, I will have a wide range of work on display and examples of work in progress. There will be demonstrations of raku firing – stand back and enjoy the drama! Refreshments, home baking and live music will also be going down.
