Mark Welland
Exploring the Solway Firth, the latest work ‘Tidelines’ is inspired by the ever-changing quality of the coastline. The thin area between land and sea is constantly being redefined. The natural action of the waves and tide and our own stewardship have made this space what it is, something to cherish.

About My Practice
The process and physicalness of making is very important to me. Grabbing the moments to source materials from the beaches creates an affinity between the place and the made pieces. It’s the moments that become the inspiration for the work. We’ve all felt those moments and create memories of them in our own way. The ‘Tidelines’ paintings are some of those moments.
Tools & Materials
Beachcombed bricks, pebbles and different shells ground to create grades of pigment, from coarse to fine. Bound in acrylic medium and finished with resin.
