Mary Gladstone
I am a potter working on my own at Craichlaw, Kirkcowan. Bold powerful designs are fundamental to my work. Unlike most potters I do not keep to one style but enjoy exploring new styles and approaches – as a potter you are continually learning.

About My Practice
At my studio I make a wide variety of beautifully designed and finished pots. Depending on clay type and glaze these are glaze fired in either a gas (reduction), or electric kin in my studio. I sell pots from an adjacent gallery, on-line, in shops and at exhibitions.
Tools & Materials
I work with differing earthenwares, stonewares and porcelain clays. I keep kiln records recording firing cycles, pyrometric cone temperature, and units of energy consumed. I make the majority of my glazes from raw ingredients such as feldspar, quartz, china clay, and oxides and use homemade test tiles to test the glazes. I use differing throwing kidneys, sponges and chamois leather, and use a range of turning tools.
