Michael Dixon

We are a family of artisan crafters living and working together close to the Solway Firth. Myself, Mike, my wife Gail, our daughter Gem and her husband Tim along with our two grandsons Joe and Ben. Our aim is to live a more sustainable, environmentally friendly, lifestyle and this is reflected in our woodwork/art work process. We are gradually reducing our reliance on woodwork machines and replacing them with more traditional hand -tools. This process has in many ways created a more beneficial work environment, reducing the amount of dust and noise which has major benefits for our health, and the environment around us.

About My Practice

We work, as much as possible, with locally grown sustainable hardwood timbers that we source locally especially Trees that have blown down in the storms or have had to be felled. We use both seasoned timber and Greenwood timber which we will handcraft into a wide range of beautiful yet useful items for the home. Our work is born out of a deep connection with the environment having lived and worked within a Forestry background for a number of years. From planting to harvesting, trees bring joy, peace, health and beauty to the world we live in. We try to capture the essence of this within our artwork and wood work. None of the wood goes to waste even the smallest pieces of what is a valuable commodity are put to use, sawdust is used to heat the workshop.
