My Practice

I make mixed media artworks combining drawing, painting and printmaking techniques including screen printing and collograph. I am currently working on paper, canvas , wood and textiles. I mostly make unique pieces rather than editioned prints. My work is often semi abstract and relates to the natural environment and our interaction with it.
I have been developing new work over the last 2 years based on the landscape of the peak district. It will include new largescale artworks 1.5 x 1 m and smaller scale works which incorporate my response to visiting the landscape, geology and archaeology of the Peaks. I am excited to finally have the opportunity to exhibit this work after all the lockdowns.

Tools & Materials

Visitors to my studio will be able to see two separate spaces. During lockdown I built a new studio building in my garden and relocated my printmaking and art equipment to there.
Visitors will be able to see my screenprinting press and my workspace for printing and largescale painting. They will also see my light table, screen store and wash out booth for screenprinting. I will set up the screen printing bench press with a screen and print and an explanation of the process. My etching press will also be set up and visible to visitors. I will have examples of printing blocks and related trial prints on an adjacent table. I will also display sketch books, studies and work in progress for people to see my process.

Spring Fling Activity

The studio is a small space and not suitable for lots of visitors to stand and chat to me so I will have an exhibition of completed work in my large kitchen space. My large vintage flat bed relief press will be set up in this room. This press is a broad sheet proofing press for old newspapers. I will offer printing demonstrations on this press at regular intervals throughout the 4 days of spring fling. I will also have pictures in browsers and cards for sale.

The studio is a working space with industrial equipment. I really welcome children but only when supervised by adults to keep them safe. No one wants to take home covid from Spring Fling so please make use of home testing before the event and follow the most up to date Scottish Government guidelines on face coverings, unless exempt. I will ventilate my spaces and provide sanitiser and there are seats in the garden to allow people to wait if the studio gets busy.
