Spring Fling Illustration Commission
We are delighted to announce that Sarah McCusker has been awarded the Spring Fling Illustration Commission to design the brochure for Spring Fling 2027, our 25th anniversary year.

Sarah McCusker is a multimedia artist, whose work covers collage, sculpture and printmaking. She curates and manipulates materials found, forgotten and discarded and reimagines these to tell deeper narratives about our inner humanity and connection with our wider world.
Sarah said:
"I am thrilled to be selected to develop the 25th anniversary illustrations for Spring Fling. This is a time to reflect and showcase all the hard work and dedication of our artists and makers across the region. I can’t wait to explore the behind the scenes of their varied practices and develop new contemporary artwork to celebrate this special year."
She is aiming to celebrate the creativity of Dumfries & Galloway by creating artwork for the brochure that encapsulates the many varied artforms the region has to offer, focusing on all the offcuts, scrap, unused materials that go into making for Spring Fling artists. The final illustrations will be combining materials such as thread trimmings from weavings, lino cuttings, wood shavings, old paint palettes.

If you are interested in sending in materials for Sarah, please read on. Sarah is looking for materials that are a result of and reflection of your artistic practices that detail the behind-the-scenes work of your making. These can be anything from offcuts, by-products, wasted materials e.g, metal casting drops, wood trimmings, blades from power tools or scalpels, textile offcuts/trimmings, dried up paint palates, parts of materials they don’t use, scrapings from Lino cuts - they can be as whacky and out the box as you can think of as long as it fits the brief
non-toxic
packaged safely if sharp or broken
not things like an old microwave that needs to go to the tip
ideally sent sooner the better
must have been in Spring Fling in the last 25 years or will be applying for this year’s Spring Fling
can fit in a postable box
The deadline for Sarah to receive materials is 28th October.
