Daniel Lacey

Inspired by the local landscape, I design and create contemporary fine furniture – mainly transforming self-harvested local hardwoods into cherished heirlooms.
Specialising in ethical bespoke commissions, I also make speculative and limited-edition pieces for exhibitions. My studio is always open by appointment.

About My Practice

As an award-winning designer-maker of contemporary fine furniture, my life is spent designing and creating functional works of art and cherished heirlooms from beautiful local woods.
Passionate about the environment – working with (not against) nature – I’ll take
your timber on a journey from tree to a practical sculptured piece of furniture.

Tools & Materials

Starting in my head, designs take weeks before transference to paper using rulers and mathematics.
Unusually, I do not use computer aided technology in either my design processes nor in the making of my pieces – making my work all the more unique.
Almost all my wood is local, self-harvested, and carefully seasoned by me – to ensure it is just right for the heirloom I create for you.
Treasured hand tools create those signature final curves and carving, after use of power-tools for any heavier work.
What follows is many hours of hand sanding and oiling, creating that final silken finish familiar to my customers.
