Nicola Wardhaugh
I am a printmaker based in Moffat, working primarily in traditional linoprint. I am drawn to the rhythmic, meditative nature of carving and printing. It is a therapeutic practice that forces me to slow me down in a busy world. I have also been exploring various mixed media and intaglio printmaking methods which brings a lovely balance to my practice.

About My Practice
I am an early career printmaker; I returned to creative practice as an adult to help me navigate a difficult period and found so much here that I loved, that I never left. Through the repeated acts of cutting and pressing I explore themes of connection, memory and ritual. My lino prints often draw inspiration from the landscapes and textures of the Moffat hills where I walk amongst nature to move my body and still my mind. It is my intention that the slow patterns of nature and moments of lived experience that translate into my prints invite in you, a sense of stillness and presence.
Tools & Materials
I am printmaker based in Moffat, working from a home-based studio. My linoprints are mostly burnished by hand using a wooden spoon or a simple Japanese baren. I’m a fan of simple tools that make printmaking accessible. For cutting, I favour the feel of Pfiel tools. My small relief press in the studio comes into use occasionally and, as a member of Gracefield Print Room I also use the professional printing presses available there.
