Lisa Hooper

I set up my home studio in Port William on the west Galloway coast twenty years ago and I’ve been creating original prints of wildlife and landscape ever since. I mostly make linocuts and etchings inspired by Galloway and the Northern Isles which I frequently visit. My work is intended to capture the essence of my subjects and to be attractive, but not sentimental.

About My Practice

I have two printing presses which I use to print from my plates and I design my work using sketches, my own photographs and an iPad. I was inspired to make wildlife art by living the Society of Wildlife Artists and in particular its talented printmakers. I became a member of the Society in 2019. I’m an experienced printmaker hoping that my best prints are still to come…

Tools & Materials

I have a large studio with an inking table, an antique relief printing press and an etching press. There is also a home made aquatint box, a bunsen burner, an inking table and a desk where I create my plates. I use traditional methods for zinc plate etching and water-based inks for reduction linocuts.
