Ailsa Black

Visitors will see my working and painting areas with brushes, palettes and easels. I am able to explain the process of creating a painting from the sketch to the finished art work. I can also explain what is involved in working with an agent, the commissioning process and getting art to print with manufacturers. By visiting my studio people can see the area I live in and how it inspires my coastal and animal inspired art. A full range of the merchandise available will include, cards, prints, textiles and coasters.

About My Practice

In the studio I engage in themes inspired by my surroundings which emerge in my naturally colourful, bold and naive style. My passion for colour combined with a love of the natural world and a strong synergy with the local environment are captured in my art. Combined with a love of animals my narrative captures the beauty of life in Scotland.

Tools & Materials

I start with a pencil sketch which allows for planning and composition. Then paint with acrylic on canvas. Building up the colour in layers allows for a strength of colour. A bold and simple use of form emerges which will always create a natural narrative where animals, insects and people engage with each other.
