Sarah Louise Plant
I have lived in south-west Scotland for over 30 years and since 2022 my home is in the heart of the Machars, close to Wigtown. I am lucky to work in a dedicated garden room studio which looks out over the garden, wildlife and fields beyond. I capture the natural beauty of Galloway and Ayrshire landscapes with water mixable oil paints.

About My Practice
With previous careers in both air traffic engineering and event management, I have been a full-time artist for nearly 5 years. I’m outdoors regularly walking my miniature Dachshund alongside my husband and we love exploring the area we live in and realising its history. I capture the moments and views on my mobile device to bring back to my studio and mix a fresh colour palette to create my next artwork.
Tools & Materials
On canvas boards I apply a coloured acrylic to sketch over my composition. Often adding Gesso paste to create a texture base for a rugged coastline for example. I work top-down always starting with the sky. My go-to tool is a flat headed brush to create the layered horizontals of the clouds, land and sea. I enjoy spending time mixing the right colour palette so that when I’m ready to add the paint to the canvas I can work quickly. Purple is my best friend as it creates a great dark tone without the need for any black in my paintings. Very much unique to me is my ability to maintain the cleanest and tidiest working studio in the universe!
