Heather Davies

My work is inspired by nature, with the Scottish Islands holding a particular resonance.
I seek to develop a visual language conveying my emotional response to the natural world.

About My Practice

I have been drawing and painting, all my life; mark making being particularly important to accentuate the form and structure within my composition. My studio work leans towards abstraction in contrast to my more spontaneous paintings worked en plein air.

Tools & Materials

I work from my studio which is near the Solway so I have access to some of the lovely beaches that are so inspirational to me. I generally use rough textured Watercolour paper, experimenting by combining mixed media such as wax and pastels with the Watercolour to achieve texture. I use a variety of brushes, often quite large. Occasionally I also add different surface papers collaged over the Watercolour paper to add more texture.
