Kate Anderson
My workspace is an area of excavation and re-assembly. In recent months I have continued to explore and translate recurring mythological themes that have a special relevance today, into a visual language using traditional and experimental techniques.

About My Practice
My inspirations lie in poetry, World Symbolism and ancient history. They are often a starting point for a personal narrative that I hope will cross visual borders and spark the imagination.
This year I have continued working on a themed collection of sculptural and 2-dimensional mixed media pieces which has occupied me for over 4 years and which includes and partly derives from written research. I am intrigued by translating verbal language into visual strata in my wall reliefs. Recently my earlier work as a painter and sculptor have resurfaced in equal measures in combinations that bring new meaning and energy to my projects. In 2025 I was delighted to be part of Upland's Decade Exhibition at Kirkcudbright Galleries. Other recent exhibitions include 'Offsite' at Corner 7 Gallery, Camden: International Exhibition of Mosaic Art (DOMO) at Klosters Aldersbach, Germany and 'Common Ground – The living landscape', the VAS exhibition at Kirkcudbright Galleries in 2026.
Tools & Materials
I may use metal, fabric, plaster, clay, resin and a variety of mosaic material, but the result should work as a whole and be a dramatic statement. I also make mosaic work using traditional materials.
