Katie Anderson
Hello, my name is Katie and I’m a public artist, working to create a variety of artworks for public space that are both temporary and permanent, and working alongside community groups to create artworks for the places they are connected to. The majority of my work can be found around Dumfries and Galloway, and include works in bronze, temporary sound installations and hand painted lettering, alongside a more ephemeral participatory practice, where through working with people, in conversations and with collaborative actions we can have a collective impact on our local places.

About My Practice
I’ve been a practicing artist for over 12 years, basing myself here in Dumfries and Galloway since I graduated from a Fine Art degree. An interest in the potential of creativity to help transform spaces has led me to a wildly varied artistic practice, working both independently and alongside other creative people and organisations. In the studio, my work is quiet and reflective – creating objects and working with materials in response to conversations and dialogues with a certain place, site or location.
Tools & Materials
My studio is also my home, and is the starting point for much of my creative practice. From building maquettes and testing ideas, these grow alongside more community focused activity taking place in all sorts of venues from school classrooms to out on the streets. Much of my work is commissioned for public space so is eventually packed up and taken for installation in situ, although some of my temporary works return to the studio after their public run is complete.
Previous works include a variety of materials and processes, from screen printed and hand dyed fabric protest banners, to copper sculptures and hand built speaker systems, and cast bronze objects.
