Katy Quinn
I’m a full time artist living and working in Dumfries & Galloway for 4 years. I have been developing work with glass and precious metals for 20 years. Work ranges from large, ambitious 2D wall panels – to accessible 2D & 3D items and jewellery.

About My Practice
I’m a compulsive maker of image-based work – seeking ways of combining glass with precious metals to express my ideas. I strive to continually develop my work and challenge myself both expressively and technically. I’m influenced by feelings evoked by wild nature – woodlands are a recurring theme.
Tools & Materials
I explore combining glass with precious metals in a variety ways but with an emphasis on hand rendered imagery. I don’t use decals, stencils or printing – the demands of drawing and hand-making are important to me. I apply traditional techniques – such as fired-on oxides – in new ways. My studio has an area for traditional silversmithing tools and materials and an area for glass – including my glass kiln. Away from the studio, travels and walks are accompanied by obsessive photo taking. Returning to my studio I begin by sketching out ideas inspired by combinations of my photos which I reinterpret and develop into designs for work.
