Lorna Phillips
I work with found clays, making pots and sculptures, researching my surroundings and the artefacts that have been dug up there. Archaeology and anthropology is often where my work begins.

About My Practice
I dig up clay from different places and use this to make work inspired by those places and their material culture. My practice is rooted in clay but also branches out to art installations, including drawing, photography and film making.
An increasing part of my practice is also facilitating community workshops where people can make with local clays.
Tools & Materials
My workshop is in Leadhills which is just over the Dumfries and Galloway border, not far from Wanlockhead. I am taking part in Spring Fling through the Neighbours scheme, and so I will be showing my work and the studio processes involved in my practice near Corsock for the event. I will be sharing the research base of my work as well as the physical processes of using found clays, and providing the opportunity for visitors to get their hands dirty and make something out of the clays if they wish.

Spring Fling Activity
People will be able to make something out of some found clays if they wish, using pinch pot and hand building techniques, as well as prehistoric mark making.
