Sam Bowsher Chainsaw Carving

I’m Sam Bowsher, a chainsaw carver based in the South of Scotland. I create a variety of wood carvings for a widespread client base. My work is mostly commission based, providing carvings to anyone from private gardens to business’ and public trails. I also supply a few retail outlets with carvings to sell.
I also travel the world to compete in high level Chainsaw Carving Competitions, in which I’ve had some success.

About My Practice

Chainsaw Carving is a loud, fast paced art form. Some carvings take as little as 20 minutes from log to finished piece.
I use a variety of saws and power tools to get tot the finished piece.
I carve mostly commercially grown timber sourced from Scotland. These tend to be Cedar, Spruce or Douglas Fir.
I have been carving full-time since June 2019. In that time I have spent a lot of time with some of the Best Carvers around the world and try and learn something from all of them. I absolutely love my job and nothing beats the feeling of making people happy with my work.

Tools & Materials

I work in a private workshop throughout the year. I carve at a number of public shows through the summer months, as well as travel abroad for competitions.
I do as much work on each piece with a chainsaw as I can. I’d say most my works are around 80% chainsaw, then 20% power tools and stains for the finishing touches.
