Stephanie Lightbown
I am an artist working on the River Dee and surrounding coasts, creating mixed-media assemblages shaped by seaweed, shoreline ecology and daily walks across St Mary’s Isle within the Galloway Dark Sky Park.

About My Practice
I am a full-time artist creating low-relief mixed-media works and abstract compositions housed within box structures. My practice is influenced by artists such as Joseph Cornell and Marc Giai-Miniet, whose explorations of narrative, containment and constructed worlds resonate strongly with my own. I work across photography, textiles, collage, found objects and coastal mapping, building layered pieces through methods drawn from bookbinding, textile construction and surface design. I am continuing to shape my career as I refine a distinctive visual language rooted in shoreline ecology, material curiosity and the quiet storytelling potential of the box form.
Tools & Materials
My studio brings together the different strands of my practice, from bookbinding presses and sewing machines to a heat press and materials for collage, photography and coastal mapping, reflecting the layered processes at the heart of my work.
