Orange Route

I trained as a mechanical engineer at Rosyth Dockyard in the early 90’s mostly pretending to work on Trident submarines before changing career when I was 25.
I graduated in 2003 from Duncan of Jordanstone, Dundee with a BA Hons in Fine Art & a Master of Science in Electronic Imaging. I have worked as an artist, creative producer, project manager and art technician since then.
Collaboration and interaction are key to my work, enabling the process of sharing and making to inform the outcome.
Travel, place, meetings and colloquialism are also integral to my creative process, which has led me to live an often-nomadic art lifestyle traveling to undertake projects at home and abroad.
This led me to create artist collective GANGHUT in 2004-2012 and work with fellow Scottish artist Graeme Roger as art duo ROGER&REID for over 20 years.
I have lived in Dalswinton, Dumfries for over 10 years.

About My Practice

I had a break from my art practice for a bit to concentrate on work and music projects.
Over the past few years, I have re-engaged with it and set up a studio/project space.
Working with a 50-year-old Kippax screen printing table I stripped and rebuilt during the COVID years and other handmade DIY equipment I have been experimenting with print and drawing as well as starting to paint again.
I’ve also been building strange musical instruments, DIY electronics and effect units.

Tools & Materials

I have studio & project/gallery space at Kindar House, the Crichton which I share with my partner.
We have printing facilities there, I built most of the equipment I use for screen printing from recycled materials which I often source from galleries as freelance art technician.
The studio is where I go to think, escape everyday life and make odd things.
