Elizabeth Gault

Welcome to my Virtual Studio, a space where you can explore my jewellery practice from wherever you are. Here you’ll find a glimpse into my Kirkcudbright workspace, the tools and materials I use, and the inspirations behind my collections. Through images, videos, and personal reflections, you can experience the atmosphere of my studio and discover how each piece is handcrafted. I’m delighted to share this behind-the-scenes journey with you, and I hope it brings the spirit of Galloway a little closer to home.

About My Practice

I’m a jewellery metalsmith working from my studio in Kirkcudbright, creating one-of-a-kind pieces in silver, gold, gemstones and sea glass. My practice is rooted in storytelling, drawing on the landscapes, coastline and folklore of Galloway. I use traditional hand-fabrication techniques—sawing, forging, soldering, stone-setting—to transform raw materials into wearable art, with no two pieces ever made the same way twice. Now more than ten years into my career, I continue to refine my collections, explore new ideas, and deepen the connection between my work and the land that inspires it. My aim is to create jewellery that carries meaning, craftsmanship and a sense of place for those who wear it.

Tools & Materials

I work from a small but bright studio in Kirkcudbright, where every piece of jewellery is handcrafted at my bench. My setup includes traditional metalsmithing tools—hammers, saws, files, mandrels, torches, and polishing equipment—alongside gemstone-setting tools and my trusted sketchbooks. I work mainly in sterling silver and gold, pairing them with gemstones, pearls, and sea glass collected from the Galloway coast. This combination of simple hand tools and raw natural materials allows me to shape, forge and solder each piece from start to finish, creating jewellery with character, craftsmanship, and a strong sense of place.
