Purple Route

I work from my studio in Kirkcudbright which is an old shop front with large windows on the corner of Castle street and High street. The large windows give me great light to work and passers by can view my printing process as I work or come in for a demo to learn more.
I came to Scotland for a visit from South Africa in 2019 looking for a place to live and settle with my Scottish wife and son.We were drawn to the artists town.We planned our visit to be here at the same time as Spring Fling for a chance to experience the event. We were blown away by the variety and quality of the works being shown by the artists taking part and decided then to buy the property which is now my home and studio so that I could also apply to be a part of this wonderful event.
I mainly do landscapes and I am loving drawing inspiration from the many coastal and forest walks in Dumfries and Galloway. I love to capture the play of light on the landscape or in reflexions on water or objects. My work is often seasonal, snow or frost in winter or flowers in spring and summer. My current works will be on show for Spring Fling.

About My Practice

I am a full time artist/printmaker who specialises in hand made limited edition reduction linocuts and monotypes.I am inspired by the impressionists style of mark making and Japanese selective rolling techniques. My passion is in capturing the play of light moving over landscapes or found in reflexions on water or in objects. I prefer my work to speak for itself as it is my language.

Tools & Materials

My studio is an old shop with two large windows that are my workstations. One station is where I do my initial drawing then cutting my lino with a variety of chisels. The other station is where I mix and roll my inks before passing the works through my printing press which stands in the centre of my studio.
