Julian Francis

I make highfired Earthenware and Raku wheel thrown and hand built forms, often in collaboration with other atrtists and makers. Although I have worked with clay for over 50 years I am stil excited by the prospect of exploring new ideas, materials, techniques and firings.

About My Practice

I work mainly on collaborative projects, often walking and collecting objects that might speak to the history of a landscape or place. In the pottery i will use many different ceramic techniques to bring ideas together to make forms that are relevent to a project.

Tools & Materials

I hand build, throw and make moulds for casting and pressing. Clays are mixed and processed in
pug mills and part finished pots are biscuit fired in electric kilns. Glazes are mixed from a variety of materials, applied using different techniques and fired in electric or gas kilns
