LIZ DAGG
Colour and texture is evident in my paintings. I endeavor to capture a personal feeling/essence, especially the energy and movement of the place. I am particularly drawn to extreme weather conditions, especially heavy seas. Being able to spend time at such a location whatever the weather is important and many of these paintings are of local scenes. Although the viewer will see quite a few of my images are created in a semi abstract way.

About My Practice
I take my inspiration from being outdoors especially while walking. I do sometimes create a painting in situ but mainly just sketch and take notes. However, I do love my sketch books but not to scale up to produce paintings from. I use them to create when time is short or when I first go into the studio as a way of being present. These books show lots of different samples of work and are available to view. Colour and texture are important to me so I enjoy experimenting with different tools and materials such as collage. I also enjoy encouraging others to get back into creating or helping with ideas or suggestions whenever possible. I am also working on 2 commissions at the moment.
Tools & Materials
When I paint in gouache this is usually on watercolour paper when using acrylic or oil I use canvas or board. Often there will be some mark making especially in the early stages of my painting whereby ink, pastel, collage or another art material may have been added. This is then referred to as a Mixed Media Painting. I don’t just stick to brushes but enjoy using a palette knife and often rags to create different effects. I make collage papers and have been experimenting using a Gelli Plate and happy to show this technique.
