Louisa Birdsall
I love nature, especially local wildlife, coast and countryside views. I studied at Grays School of Art and graduated in 2022 in Communication Design. Since graduating I have been exploring my style and expanding my knowledge in illustration.

About My Practice
I like to illustrate with bold limited colour pallets to create landscapes which are familiar yet nostalgic. I enjoy illustrating animals and capture their personalities, whether it’s an inquisitive look or lots of scruffy hairs on their ears.
I work digitally and in watercolour with pen. I love to experiment with different techniques, colours and personifications of wildlife.
Inspired by my local area I connect with nature with a walk along the coast and take inspiration from my surroundings.
Tools & Materials
I print my work on recycled and part-recycled papers which add textures and organic flecks to my work.
I like to use scrap paper or digital sketches to cut down on paper waste. Watercolours and pens are my favourite traditional media to work in to create scruffy animals and children’s book illustrations.
I use an iPad to create bold block colours for my landscape and coastal designs, I love the flatness created this way and can mimic screen-print and linocut style.
