Louisa Birdsall

I am an illustrator and graphic designer. I am influenced by coastal living and surrounding nature, having lived in Rockcliffe for 20 years. I have a passion for the sea and wildlife.
My local coastal maps use a minimal colour palette to create a modern style and I like to add in little details which are key to the area.
I also illustrate posters inspired by 1920s railway designs and which show a stylised interpretation of my local area.

About My Practice

Having recently graduated from Gray’s School of Art I am working as a freelance illustrator.
I work digitally and in watercolour with pen. I love to experiment with different techniques, colours and personifications of wildlife.
Inspired by my local area I connect with nature with a walk along the coast and take inspiration from my surroundings.

Tools & Materials

I have been exploring getting my work printed on recycled and part-recycled papers which add textures and organic flecks to my work.
I also like to use digital sketches to cut down on paper waste. Watercolours and pens are my favourite traditional media to work in.
