Mark Welland
Based near Dalbeattie I work primarily on a project around a single oak tree. Much of the work with the oak tree are evocations that reminisce the time spent studying and observing the tree in unusual weather conditions at different times of the day or night.
About My Practice
My practice is multi-disciplinary, but at its heart I use photography, painting and mixed media to explore the association of materials and their effects. Using mixed media and ideas drawn from favourite artists or contemporary themes I aim to evoke the many different experiences I had while documenting the oak tree.
I’m a member of Free Painters and Sculptors artist group and have exhibited and gained awards at The Mall Galleries, Bankside Gallery, Society of Botanical Artists. I also show regularly at Affordable Art Fairs (London).
Tools & Materials
The studio is part of the steading where we live. My processes involve a collaboration of materials. These include inkjet pigment, acrylic paint, print on paper and metal leaf.
Recent pieces include using wood and charcoal made from the oak tree.
