Heather Davies
My paintings are semi-abstract with a suggestion of reality. Working primarily in the studio allows me more time to reflect and a free rein to experiment. In contrast my small spontaneous watercolours painted en-plein-air are usually more representational.

About My Practice
Nature and landscape have always been inspirational, particularly the Scottish coast and islands. I first visited Scotland when I was seven and it has left an indelible mark.
Initially painting en plein air, watercolour was the perfect medium to capture the fleeting light and beauty of this magical place.
Although my recent work is semi abstract, I am told it still retains a suggestion of reality. With colour and mark-making I strive to develop a language: one that I hope will convey my emotional response and excitement about the subject.
Tools & Materials
I work mainly in watercolour often drawing into the work with conte crayons or other materials. I like to experiment with other media such as acrylics or oil. However I usually return to watercolour as I love the freedom it gives me and translucency achievable with this medium.
